Five Things Friday

This week was insane and weird. The mister left town for business last Saturday and there were three meetups scheduled with the Pirate Mommas... we missed all of them. Cole spent Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon feeding animals and playing in water with great-grandpa at the farm.

For someone who barely knew my great-grandfather, it warms my heart to see my husband's 87-year-old grandpa play with my son. Cole is obsessed with this grandpa and great-grandpa, and he lights up their lives. Grandpa Jim even taught him to say "I love you Mom" this week.. and although it came out sounding more like "I wuv you Mom" it made me burst into tears.

....And it suddenly started pouring rain outside.

So it's Friday again - already! - and I have some new stuff for you.

Five Things You Don't Know About Me Friday
  1. Lemon poppyseed muffins are my favorite.
  2. I burn myself cooking a lot.
  3. I heart Banksy.
  4. I love the rain.
  5. Discovering little patches of wonderland in the city is my favorite.
Yesterday evening the kids were both crying, so we went for a drive after dinner.  Discovered a magical little nature park right off the highway tonight not far from our place on accident. While at a stoplight, I saw some men fishing and a few little bridges that intrigued me, so the kids and I stopped and found a dozen or more baby ducks, turtles, momma and daddy ducks, geese, a pelican, and more! It was amazing.

Colored Jeans and Other Things

Today I pulled out my new red jeans, which turned out to be more pinkish than red... but hey, I still like them.

shirt: Eddie Bauer, thrifted. belt: The Buckle, old
colored jeans: Target. shoes: TOMS. glasses: Zenni Optical
riding boots: Payless. tank: Old Navy. scarf: Walmart. toys c/o my children.
Stella's attached to Momma. Bunz is our dwarf rabbit, off to the right. The Deuces Wild poker slot machine was a gift to my husband from his boss's private collection.

In other areas, I've decided blogging every day isn't my style. For one, my kids keep me so busy that I can barely keep up. My house is disturbingly cluttered with toys and my kitchen is always overrun with dirty dishes, but hey, my kids are happy. Building block towers and scribbling with sidewalk chalk are like my reality TV and a cigarette (bad, I know).. they hit the spot every time.

The last two weeks brought forth some significant events and will be remembered forever. Wish someone would have told me that before so I could have prepared. ;) Last Friday we took Cole to his preschool evaluation, where the speech therapist said, "He isn't pronouncing the end of any of his words, which is a definite indicator that he needs speech therapy." It's not like my heart sank, because we were already aware his tongue-tie made his speech develop poorly so he had a lot of work to do to train the muscles in his tongue to speak more clearly. We meet with another speech therapist next week so she can teach me exercises to work with him on at our house, since they are closed for the summer. This is disappointing because it means Cole won't have real speech therapy until the fall, when he will be 4 and supposed to be entering preschool. Although we can't afford preschool at this time, I was really hoping to get this figured out before he enters kindergarten and has to deal with other kids teasing him or worse, getting frustrated because he can't be understood and starts acting out.

Today I saw my OB after having a positive pregnancy test about a month ago. The second test, four days later, was negative and I started what I thought was my period that day. Three weeks later, while still bleeding, she confirmed that I had miscarried early on. I was emotionless until I sat down in my car in the parking lot....then I gave myself 10 minutes to cry and collect myself before heading home to my beautiful family. This being our second miscarriage, today made me hold my children tighter knowing how lucky we are to have the two beautiful babies that we have.

Five Things You Don't Know About Me Friday:
  1. I've had my nose repierced 4 times, the first time at 17.
  2. I only had one tattoo from 18 to 26, when I started covering myself. I have 10 tattoos.
  3. My husband and I celebrate 7 years of marriage this month.
  4. Instead of going on a honeymoon, we bought a house.
  5. He is my best friend, security, and makes me laugh more than anyone ever has.

Five Things You Don't Know about Me Friday

1. As an animal lover, I do not own or wear animal print or fur, even faux fur. Never have, probably never will.
2. I rarely take out the diamond stud earrings my mother gave me for my 18th birthday.
3. I never take off the chain with my babies' names on it.
4. Boots are my staple. I wear them through all four seasons, even though it's freaking hot in Texas.
5. Pregnancy shifted my posture and now I can't wear heels. At 5'2", it's a sad thing.

Five Things You Don't Know about Me Friday

Since I've been blogging nearly every day, perhaps it's time for some theme days. So, I'm making Friday "5 things you don't know about me Friday." Little tidbits of info about me, favorite fashions, crushed dreams, reoccurring nightmares, dresses I'm obsessed with.. whatever comes out that day.

5 Things You Don't Know About Me Friday
  1. Growing up I wanted to be a writer and photographer for National Geographic who traveled all over the world.
  2. I never planned, or had any desire, to get married or have children until I met my wonderful mister.
  3. My son Cole's name came from my late grandfather, who wanted to name my dad that.
  4. Stella's name is a combination of Stacy and Shellie, only I wanted an 'a' ending. St-ell-a.
  5. I've always been a bit of a trendsetter in a wear-what-I-want kind of way.

The other day's themes will be:
Mood of the Day Monday -an outfit based on my mood and things that piss me off or make me happy
Two for Tuesday -an outfit and a  bonus
What I Wore Wednesday - post my outfit of the day
Thrifting Thursday - incorporate a thrift store find into my outfit or show off new 'old' goods

What do you think? This is my first go at this.
I don't have a tripod or know my camera lens, nor am I a fashion photographer. I don't shop at high-end stores, but still believe you can look good on a budget with clothes from Target, Kohl's, and thrift store finds. I'm a stay-at-home-mom with no reason to get dressed every day besides the fact that I like to dress up. Oh, and the occasional play date with my Tattooed Hippie Pirate Mommas. :)
