Mom Confession #148

Some days take so much out of me that I just want to sleep for days.

Coming Soon

My sweet mister loves taking pictures of me, so we pulled out the good Sony camera yesterday for some non-iPhone pictures. It's charged and ready to go.. all I need is the outfit to shoot.

It's hard getting dressed some days when you know you're just going to sit around be taking care of kids all day. Rarely do we get out of the house because right now it's cold in Texas, and it's never cold in Texas, so it scares me a bit. haha. You'd think I'd be less of a wuss since I grew up in Missouri, but after 9 years with awesome warm weather, the cold makes my bones shake.

Today I wore a navy sweater that used to belong to Kev until it was shrunk in the dryer (oops), long white and navy striped shirt underneath, skinny jeans and black motorcycle boots to our morning playdate. As I post this I have changed into black pajama pants that are now covered in baby food - squash, to be exact.

Highlights of our Day:
  • Stella knocked her head into the train table at Barnes & Noble, leaving a blue knot on her lower eyebrow bone. The nice Starbucks guy gave us ice and she actually sat still, so it must have hurt. That was the end of our playdate.
  • Hanging with Brit and Rach, two of my favorite tattooed mommas.
  • Buffalo chicken pizza my hubby brought home.
  • Cole peed at Barnes & Noble without freaking out about the automatic flushing toilets, hurray!
Have a lovely evening, whoever is reading this... Sweet dreams!

Quitting is Always What I've Done Best.

That's right, I'm a cloth diaper quitter. After three years of full dedication to making my babies have 'fluffy bums,' I've had enough. After Cole did so great with them and even potty-trained at 2.5, it was just a given that Stella would inherit his old dipes and be a cloth diaper big butt baby, too. Only recently when we noticed they were giving her bad rashes, we decided to switch to disposables.

It feels sooooooo good. (i hate to admit that. sorry, earth. i still love you.)

No more washing stinky diapers out in the sink and toilet, no more worrying about dipes being clean all the time. It frees up just a little more time in my day. I know some of you reading this are probably rolling your eyes, but it's not bothering me.

Three years > number of years left diapering = most important thing to me

I'm so glad the Tattooed Mommas were supportive - they even praised me for being dedicated for so long. I hung in there as long as I could. But with that second baby... well, she turned 1 and started walking while the 3-year-old discovered his new trick of climbing up on the back of the couch, and well, there just isn't the time to step away to rinse out a diaper.

On that note, Stella is climbing up the couch....

Favorites: Top 10s

Since my son Cole was born in October of 2008, I've been blessed to be a part of an online birth board for moms who were pregnant and due at the same time as myself. Four years later, we continue to keep up with each other every day through our board and on Facebook, and I absolutely love these women.

Anyway, there's a thread going called "Top 10" where you list your top favorite movies, music, books, etc. Between "Mommy, watch me's" and diaper changes and milk, I haven't had the time to type up my list on the board because I haven't sat down long enough to think about it. So, here it is, in no certain order..

  1. The Big Lebowski
  2. A League of Their Own

*there are way too many musicians to list here so I'll stop at 10 to save you the reading. ;) i really, really, really like music. The best way to listen to it is next to the speakers, lying on the floor in a dark room... at least the kind of music i like. ;)

    Much More than a Mom

So it occurred to me that I only write in this blog about my children, which is fine, but there is much more to me than being a momma.

My tattooed momma friends are always telling me how cute I look at our meetups - I admit, I love fashion. I love getting dressed in the morning. Sometimes I lay out a week's worth of outfits dreaming of wearing them, but alas, the good ol' vintage doesn't get pulled out much these days. My cute little babydoll dresses wouldn't look so adorable with food stains crusted on them.

These days my outfits are more kid-friendly and exist mainly of leggings, boots and a long shirt and cardigan. Leggings are something I thought I'd never wear in a million years, but they were so comfortable during my pregnancies that I bought some from Victoria's Secret in black and gray and wear them with practically everything. My favorite recent purchases are a black and white shift dress from H&M, a gray short-sleeved tunic cowl-neck sweater, and black knee-high boots from Target that zip up the side for a little edge.

Today I wore these boots and sweater to brunch with the girls and kiddos. I paired them with black leggings from VS.

In short, when there's nothing to post about my kiddos, you may see an outfit or two. I refuse to be that momma who looks like crap all the time, even if I don't get to shower every day. ;) (obviously, i need to improve my poses or my husband's camera angles.)

    The Best Presents Ever

Since this blog is mostly about Star Girl and The Boy, I thought I'd share a little bit of them with you so y'all know who I'm talking about. :)

The Boy turned 3 in October and is a bit of a wild child. He also goes by The Whiner.
Star Girl turned 1 three days before Christmas. Poor girl is gonna hate her birthday.

These were taken during the Pirate Momma amateur photoshoot.. Of course none of them together turned out!

We'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain..

I guess it's time for an update! :)

C's speech has become more clear, and though he will probably still need speech therapy, I am able to understand 90% of what he says now. This is huge, since I was literally repeating "I can't understand you" and "What are you saying?" all day long, for most sentences. We relied a lot on hand gestures and pointing. His confidence level is raising and our bond is becoming closer as we are able to communicate better. His surgery was Nov. 4, so he's come a long way in that time. I am beyond thrilled and love my boy so much for trying so hard even through his frustration.

Star Girl turned 1 right before Christmas and it seems like she is growing so fast right before my eyes. She is walking across the room, talking up a storm, and is the happiest baby I know. She is the light of my life that gets me through the days.

The Boy is 3 and no one ever said how terrible is was. On a recent shopping trip with my mother-in-law for holiday outfits for the kids, he was running around the department store and had to be retrieved countless times because the boy just has so much energy. The elderly lady behind the counter must have noticed my humiliation because she turned to me and said, "He's 3, right?" and proceeded to tell me about a book she was given called "Terrible Twos, Horror Threes" when she was raising her three boys. I'd give anything to have that book some days.

As for Pirate Momma, I'm back on my meds and feeling pretty good. My patience level has increased significantly and I'm able to actually enjoy my kids, which is a damn good feeling.
